   The Municipal Theatre, Pirenópolis
   Luso-Brazilian Style

   (1889 - 1901) Pirenópolis, GO

uilt by Sebastião Pompeu de Pina with the help of the population, the Sebastião Pompeu Theatre (as it was formerly known) was the second to be built in Pirenópolis. Its position is typical of buildings of the time; it stands out among the single-storey houses, around it on account of its height - as is also the case with the Theatre of Sabará. The surroundings are well preserved; indeed, the whole town, brought under a conservation order by the Secretariat for the National Historical and Artistic Heritage (SPHAN) in 1988, keeps much of its original appearance. It was restored in 1981-1982, and its external aspect is intact. Though build in 1889, it seems older on account of its adherence to the structural traditions of the region: wood and adobe blocks.
